Since the days of George Washington, Americans have spent hours each year cultivating the perfect lawn. Matter of fact, Thomas Jefferson brought ideas used in England and France landscaping designs back to America during the 1780’s. In early days building a lawn and maintaining its beauty was done with a scythe and hard physical labor. Today, building a lawn has a few more tools and involves some additional steps, but the verdant green lawns, gorgeous gardens, and manicured shrubbery are worth it.
As you begin building the lawn you have always wanted, there are a number of steps to follow to ensure your lawn is all it can be.
Once your lawn has been planted keep foot traffic to a minimum and be sure to water at least 4 times a day to encourage its growth. You won’t need to mow your lawn until the grass is at least 4 inches tall and then be sure to only cut ½ to ¾ of an inch.
Building a lawn takes time and energy, but having a lush yard is worth it. You will soon be able to smile with pride at a job well done!
