The climate in Indiana differs slightly between the northern and southern portions of the state. The climate in the southern portion is warmer and receives higher levels of precipitation than the rest of the state. However, the entire state experiences warm summers and cooler winters making the area excellent for agriculture. Indiana residents have many options when choosing a type of grass to plant in their yard. Because it is considered a transition zone, both warm and cool type grasses are able to survive in Indiana. However, Kentucky bluegrass is one of the more popular variations in the state. It is a durable grass that is able to easily withstand heavy snowfall and cold temperatures in the winter. Another popular choice is tall fescue which also has many of the resilient properties of bluegrass. However, in order to keep fescue looking nice, regular mowing and watering are important. Indiana lawn care is often concerned with preventing snowmold in the winter and brown spots in the grass in the summertime. Both of these are common lawn issues in Indiana but fortunately are easily remedied with adequate fertilization and in some case, a fungicide treatment.
