Idaho’s climate is very diverse. The state experiences four very distinct seasons, with hot temperatures in the summer, and cold winters with some snow. The state has an abundance of beautiful wildlife and the Rocky Mountains run through the state making skiing a favorite pastime among Idahoans. Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in the country, is also found in Idaho. Although known for its beautiful wildlife, many types of grass struggle to withstand all four seasons in Idaho’s diverse climate. Because the winters can be so cold, it is important to look for a more resilient type of grass for yards, gardens, and parks. Some that are recommended by Idaho lawn care experts include Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue. These grasses are able to tolerate cold weathers well, but don’t do well in extremely hot temperatures or dry weather. It is recommended that Idaho residents water carefully and/or irrigate during the summer to avoid problems.
